PRRA General Monthly Meeting
The next PRRA General Monthly Meeting will be held on October 29th at 7:15 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Punta Gorda, located at 25250 Airport Road. Hurricane Prep 2026 Be Prepared, Stay Alert! Hurricane season in Southwest Florida officially runs June 1 through November 30, with the peak usually hitting late August through October. Seasonal forecasts can hint at “above” or “below average,” but they don’t predict landfalls well. You could have a quiet season overall and still get a direct hit—or a busy season where Florida gets lucky. Sunday Night Sunset Net The PRRA Sunday Night Sunset Net, held at 7:00 PM on the W4DUX repeater, remains active and consistently well attended. Members and non-members alike are invited to join this relaxed “rag chew” net—an excellent opportunity to connect with both familiar voices and new participants. We encourage you to check in and be part of an informative, engaging, and enjoyable evening on the air. Monday Night DMR Net This net is conducted on the W4DUX Chicagoland DMR repeater using Local 9, as well as on TG 3555 for remote participants and is held on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month at 7:00 PM. All are welcome—please join us and take the opportunity to test and enjoy your DMR radios! DMR/D-STAR Digital Radio Workshop The Digital Radio Group meets on the last Monday of each month at the Mid-County Regional Library, located at 2050 Forrest Nelson Blvd., Port Charlotte, from 2:15 PM to 4:15 PM in Meeting Room B. The workshop is designed to help amateur radio operators with D-Star, DMR, and Fusion topics in a relaxed, hands-on environment. The cost of Meeting Room B is $20.33, which will be shared equally among all participants. A transistor is essentially a microscopic electronic switch. So when you hear that a chip has 100 billion transistors, you're talking about 100 billion microscopic switching elements working together.
And yes, this is one reason semiconductor technology is so remarkable: all of those transistors can fit onto something only a few centimeters across. I will explain how they physically manufacture a billion+ transistors onto a tiny piece of silicon—the process is fascinating. ______________________________________________________________________________
